DVD
A standard CD can hold 650Mb of data or 74 minutes of stereo audio at 44.1 kHz/16 bit. Although it is possible to push this limit up slightly, it would be outside the Philips specification for CD, and can be problematic and unreliable. Commercially available DVDs are currently divided into 3 types

DVD-5 Single Sided Single Layer 4.7 Gb

DVD-9 Single Sided Double Layer 8.5 Gb

DVD-10 Double Sided Single Layer each 9.4 Gb

DVD-5 & DVD-9 are single sided and can therefore be printed on one side. They look like a standard CD. DVD-10 are double sided and can only be printed around the centre hub.

DVDs can contain exactly the same data as CDs (Audio (DVD Audio), Data (DVD ROM) as well as mixed mode and of course MPEG Video
